Operation Christmas Child
The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world. Through this project, Samaritan’s Purse partners with local churches worldwide to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and make disciples of the nations. Jefferson Presbyterian Church is proud to support this mission by collecting items year round for shoe-boxes that our youth pack with love to send to children around the world. Items included in these boxed include school supplies, hygiene items, toys, educational items, tools, sewing and fishing kits, and other items as appropriate for each age group. We start collecting items, money, and also start packing in January. Our goal is to get as many ready as we can before November. We try to place soap in boxes, regular washcloth, some #2 pencils, crayons, combs, rulers, soft bristle toothbrushes, toothbrush holders. A plastic cup holding a small stuffed animal, and a few toys in each box. You may bring items and place them in the Christmas Child room, or give them to Kathy, Connie, or Sandra. Our team leader is Kathy Marquess.
Developmental Disabilities Ministries
We have thousands of developmentally disabled citizens in the state of Georgia who are dependent upon their families for survival. But, what happens when those family members pass away or reach a point in their lives when they can no longer provide care for their loved ones? This
dilemma led a group of parents of disabled children to form the group that we now know as Developmental Disabilities Ministries of Georgia.DDM is a non-profit, Christian based charity that owns and operates 18 group homes in Georgia. The closest group to Jefferson is called the Apalachee Home in Bethlehem. This home has three adult men being empowered to work, worship, and have a quality life. The mission of DDM is to empower persons with developmental disabilities to achieve their highest level of social, physical, emotional, and spiritual maturity. The executive director, Ryan Whitmire, lives in Jefferson. We are blessed to have Joe Booth serve as a trustee. Our congregation donates a budgeted amount from our offerings.More information is available: https://ddmga.org
